One of the most admired and accomplished racehorses of his generation,

Pyledriver was one of the most admired and accomplished racehorses of his generation, known for his resilience, versatility, and thrilling performances at the highest level. Trained by William Muir—and later under the joint license of Muir & Chris Grassick—he captured the hearts of racing fans with a career that blended early promise with elite success.

He announced his talent early, winning the Listed Ascendant Stakes at two.

As a three-year-old, he progressed rapidly, landing the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes and the Great Voltigeur Stakes, and placing third in the St Leger—marking him as a colt of serious potential.

At four, racing under the Muir & Grassick partnership, Pyledriver delivered a career-defining victory in the Group 1 Coronation Cup, defeating Al Aasy in a thrilling finish.

Later that year, he returned from injury to win the Listed Churchill Stakes at Lingfield and finished a strong second in the prestigious Hong Kong Vase.    His five-year-old season was crowned by a stunning triumph in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, where he defeated a world-class field including Torquator Tasso, Mishriff, Broome, Westover, and Emily Upjohn.   He also finished runner-up to Hukum in a second Coronation Cup bid.Pyledriver returned at six to win the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot before retiring to stud at Coolmore’s The Beeches Stud, following a valiant fifth-place finish in his King George title defence.

A true flagbearer for Linkslade Stables, Pyledriver’s legacy lives on—not just in his victories, but in the spirit of determination and class he brought to every race.
