William Muir Racehourse Trainer Lambourn

William Muir

William Muir is a respected figure in British flat racing, known for his hands-on approach, deep horsemanship, and a career spanning over three decades. Based at Linkslade Stables in Lambourn, William has trained more than 700 winners, earning a reputation for developing horses with patience, precision, and care.
Born into a racing family, William’s early years at Fawley Stud immersed him in the world of thoroughbreds. He began training in 1991, and in 1993, he and his wife Janet took over Linkslade Stables—a historic yard originally built by Stan Mellor in the 1970s. Muir invested heavily in upgrading the facilities, transforming
Linkslade into a modern training base with 70 boxes, an indoor school, horse walker, spa, and
direct access to the JC Gallops at Mandown.
William Muir’s training philosophy centers on treating each horse as an individual.
He combines traditional horsemanship with modern analytical techniques, ensuring every horse receives tailored care and preparation. His attention to detail and calm, methodical style have produced a
string of high-performing horses, including Averti, Stepper Point, Enforcer, and most notably,
Pyledriver—a multiple Group One winner who brought Muir international acclaim.
In 2021, William partnered with Chris Grassick under a joint training license. Chris Grassick, a graduate of the Royal Agricultural University with global experience in Australia, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, brings a fresh perspective to the operation. Together, they blend experience and innovation, continuing to produce winners and maintain high standards of horse welfare.
The Linkslade team is deeply committed to the sport of flat racing. Every horse’s health is closely monitored, and the stable’s success is built on the dedication of its staff and the personal involvement of William and Chris.
Their collaborative approach ensures that each horse is nurtured to reach its full potential.
William Muir’s legacy is defined by his consistency, integrity, and passion for racing. He remains a pillar of the Lambourn training community, respected by peers and owners alike
Whether developing young talent or preparing seasoned runners for top-tier races,
William influence on British racing continues to grow—one horse, one race, one win at a time.

At Linkslade, racing isn’t just a sport—it’s a craft. And we’re proud to share that journey with
